We love our trees

This poem was crowd-sourced from protestors at Sheffield's meeting at Endcliffe Park on Saturday. People were objecting in large numbers to the chopping down of mature, disease-free trees and to the manner in which the situation has been handled. Please, save our trees.

We love the sound of the wind through the leaves.
Trees give us oxygen, help us to breathe.
Let us have trees instead of asthma.
Chopping down trees will lead to disaster.

Save the trees.
Save the trees.
Please save the trees.
We're begging you, please,
Will you please save the trees.

Trees drink up water and help prevent floods.
Trees are fundamentally good.
They give us shade in the sun and shelter from rain.
Once our trees are gone, they won't come back again.

Save the trees.
Save the trees.
Please save the trees.
We're begging you please,
will you please save the trees?

Sheffield is beautiful because it is green,
and the colours in autumn are a sight to be seen.
It's supposed to be the greenest city,
to lose that title would be such a pity.

Save the trees.
Save the trees.
Please save the trees.
We're begging you please,
will you please save the trees?

Trees were here before us and should outlive us.
How will our children ever forgive us?
We've always respected our elders, oaks, beeches.
Save the trees for the insects and other creatures.

Save the trees.
Save the trees.
Please save the trees.
We're begging you please,
will you please save the trees?

We've only got small yards so can't have trees there;
we need the trees to stop our streets looking bare.
When we step on our streets, we relax, feel at home.
Imagine how stressed we'll all be when they're gone.

Save the trees.
Save the trees.
Please save the trees.
We're begging you please,
will you please save the trees?

Trees absorb pollution and are home to the birds.
Chopping down trees is completely absurd.
Trees fight global warming and protect our planet.
Chopping them down can't make sense, can it?

Save the trees.
Save the trees.
Please save the trees.
We're begging you please,
will you please save the trees?

Stop it. It's not the right thing to do.
We all know it. So how about you?
Listen. Democracy is alive and well.
Our city is threatened with each tree you fell.

Save the trees.
Save the trees.
Please save the trees.
We're begging you please,
will you please save the trees?

Trees are for wildlife, beauty, enchantment,
Not for a private company's advancement.
Cost benefit analysis says 'save our trees'.
Get Amey out of Sheffield and stop this disease.

Save the trees.
Save the trees.
Please save the trees.
We're begging you please,
will you please save the trees?

Trees make us happy, we find them quite calming.
Watching you kill them is truly alarming.
Trees should be protected for future generations.
Hands off Amey. You're trying our patience.

Save the trees.
Save the trees.
Please save the trees.
We're begging you please,
will you please save the trees?

Power to the people. Tell the Council 'get a grip!'
Anyone would think they didn't give a flip.
Unless someone cares a whole awful lot,
Dr Seuss says nowt's going to change, no it's not.

Save the trees.
Save the trees.
Please save the trees.
We're begging you please,
will you please save the trees?

The children say, cutting down trees makes me sad
They say, don't cut down trees, it is really quite bad.
If there aren't any trees, they say, what will we climb?
Trees are the lungs of all mankind.

Save the trees.
Save the trees.
Please save the trees.
We're begging you please,
will you please save the trees?

Our old healthy trees have helped us to breathe.
Now it's our turn to help them secure a reprieve.
We love clean air, our fair city, we love our trees.
Find another way, now and listen to us please.

Save the trees.
Save the trees.
Please save the trees.
We're begging you please,
will you please save the trees?
